Welcome to Texts & Contexts

Students during the first week of class should create a CUNY Commons login and account. When they’ve created their account and have a username, they should email a copy of it to Lisa Rhody at lrhody [at] gc [dot] cuny [dot] edu. I’ll add you to the course website and group.

The website (here) is where students’ weekly blog posts and short writing / reflection assignments will appear. Internal class discussion, readings, changes to assignments, and announcements will happen in the class Group space. You can switch to the group here: http://cuny.is/group-texts-contexts-a-seminar-in-interdisciplinary-studies. Only students from the class will have access to the Commons Group, while the website remains publicly visible.

If you’ve missed the first day of class, please be sure to catch up on the reading. We will be looking at a tweet, which can be found here: https://twitter.com/i/events/1219596656590516225. We will also read and discuss the Washington Post Opinion piece that followed: “If you love books, do not cut them in half.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/21/if-you-love-books-do-not-cut-them-half/” Students, by way of introduction, will talk about their favorite book and their favorite reading memory.
